Membership FAQ

Membership in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is divided into two categories: collegiate, for men currently in college, and alumni, for men who have completed their degree.

Who can join Phi Beta Sigma through Tau Zeta Sigma?

Tau Zeta Sigma is an alumni chapter. Alumni membership in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is open to professional men who have earned a bachelor's degree or other degree from a recognized college or university.

Do I have to have joined a fraternity in college?

No. Many men join Phi Beta Sigma after college through an alumni chapter like ours. What matters is that you have completed your degree and are committed to brotherhood, scholarship and service.

I'm still in college. Can I join?

Collegiate membership is for men actively working toward a bachelor's degree at a recognized college or university who have completed at least one grading period with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. As an alumni chapter, we are happy to point students toward the right chapter, so feel free to fill out the form.

Can I join if I'm already in another fraternity?

Candidates cannot hold current or past membership in another intercollegiate fraternity. Membership in an honorary or professional fraternity does not count against you.

Do I need to live in Collin County?

Candidates apply to a chapter in the region where they live. Tau Zeta Sigma serves Collin County, Texas, including Frisco, Plano, McKinney and Allen. If you live elsewhere, a Phi Beta Sigma Regional Director can tell you which chapters are near you.

What kind of men is the fraternity looking for?

Men who believe in service to the community, integrity and strong principles, and who will promote and extend the programs of Phi Beta Sigma. In return, members gain a lifelong brotherhood and a national network that supports personal and professional growth.

What happens after I submit the interest form?

The form is not a membership application. It goes to our 1st Vice President, who will reach out personally to talk with you about your interest. Formal membership follows the Fraternity's membership intake and development process.
